American Antique Auction Gallery is pleased to present a sampling of the massive collection accumulated by a long time Ohio collector. Over the next few months, we will be privileged to assist in the liquidation of several hundred classic advertising sheets and fine engravings from this collector. Presented in this sampling are great advertising sheets, plus engravings and photogravures by such giants as Felix Darley, Gustave Dore, William Croome, A.R.Ward, Jean Gerome, Ulpiano Checa and other major classical artists. This collection contains classic 19th Century and early 20th Century work. They are matted and ready to frame.

Photogravure Engravings. Engraved by Selmar Hess for Goupil & Co, circa 1892-1894. Selmar Hess was a major 19th Century engraver and produced some of the finest detailed work of that century. Photogravures are made by an artist first drawing the design, then a negative is made of the drawing and burned into the polished copper or steel plate. The engraver will highlight certain aspects of the work, and the print is made from the finished plate. Because a photographic negative is used in the process, the detail is tremendous. These are all from drawings by major artists. About 8 x 10 inches each.
